When a client asks what design commonality would save, there is no published method to reach for — every study is bespoke, every result hard to defend. I’m building the open framework and releasing it with the papers. Join early: shape its assumptions, then build on it.

Structural optimization ignores production economics; cost models ignore family-level standardization. Client work bridging the two rests on in-house assumptions that are hard to defend.

Closed tools, closed data

What exists is proprietary or one-off. Reproducing a standardization claim for a sceptical client means rebuilding from zero.

What participation buys you

Nothing below rests on a promise. Today you get influence and early access. The computational results arrive on the published research schedule through 2028 — and participants see each step first.

An open engine to build on

The parametric engine and cost models ship open-source with the papers — WISDEM, RAFT, OpenFAST, OpenMDAO, validated on the IEA 15 MW references. Use them in client work; no license, no black box.

Shape the assumptions before they freeze

Formal expert review is built into the research design. Reviewers influence boundary conditions, cost structures, and validation cases — acknowledged or anonymous, as you prefer.

Co-authorship where it is earned

Substantive technical contribution to validation or case studies can mean co-authorship on the relevant papers, under normal academic criteria.

The cost of participating

The entry point is one conversation about where existing methods fail on standardization questions, and what a defensible framework requires. Interviews run under NTNU research-ethics procedures and are anonymized by default — organisations are never named without written consent. Everything beyond the interview is optional and separately agreed.

A 45-minute interview

Later, optionally: formal review

Structured review of the framework and its assumptions as part of the evaluation — a few hours across the project, scheduled around your work.

A funded NTNU doctoral program, not a vendor

This is a three-year NTNU-funded doctoral fellowship (2026–2029) in the Production Management group, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Methods and code are published openly. There is nothing for sale.
